Notice of works: wastewater infrastructure upgrade McLaren Street

GMB Water will begin essential wastewater infrastructure works on McLaren Street during the week of 23 February 2026, as part of its ongoing programmed maintenance to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the local wastewater network. The works will take place along the section of McLaren Street between the southern end of the road and the Gawler Street intersection, within the adjacent linear trail corridor. This project involves the replacement of the existing effluent main with a new pipeline designed to address damage to the current infrastructure and provide sufficient capacity to meet future sewer flow demands.

Why the works are needed

The existing effluent main has experienced deterioration that requires proactive intervention. Replacing the pipeline now will help prevent potential failures, reduce the risk of service disruptions, and support the continued growth and resilience of the wastewater network.

This upgrade forms an important part of GMB Water’s planned maintenance program, which focuses on renewing critical assets before they reach the end of their service life.

What residents and path users can expect

During construction, traffic and pedestrian management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of contractors, road users, and the community.

Due to the open trench construction required for the pipeline replacement:

  • Sections of McLaren Street will be temporarily closed to pedestrian access
  • Detours will be established for pedestrians and path users
  • Traffic conditions may change from time to time as works progress
  • Night works are planned to be undertaken at the Mann Street intersection

Where possible, road users and pedestrians are encouraged to consider alternative routes to help minimise delays and disruption.

Project timeframe

Construction is expected to take approximately four to eight weeks, subject to weather conditions and site factors. GMB Water will work to complete the project as efficiently as possible while maintaining safety and construction quality.

Thank you for your cooperation

GMB Water understands that infrastructure works can cause temporary inconvenience and thanks residents, commuters, and trail users for their patience and cooperation during this period. These essential works will help ensure the wastewater system continues to operate safely and reliably for the community now and into the future.
