Notice of Works: Temporary closure - Wycombe footpath and pedestrian rail crossing

GMB Water is extending the Central Sector Sewer Trunk Main along Railway Terrace and Wellington Road to ensure our local sewer network can meet the growing needs of Mount Barker—now and into the future. This critical upgrade will support the new Mount Barker Hospital and strengthen essential infrastructure for our community.

Upcoming Temporary Closure – Keeping Our Community Connected

GMB Water is extending the Central Sector Sewer Trunk Main along Railway Terrace and Wellington Road to ensure our local sewer network can meet the growing needs of Mount Barker—now and into the future. This critical upgrade will support the new Mount Barker Hospital and strengthen essential infrastructure for our community.

What’s Happening?

We’re making important upgrades to Mount Barker’s wastewater network, and as part of the Central Sewer Trunk Main project, the footpath and pedestrian rail crossing between Kirtlington Court and Kennebec Court will be closed from 5 January to 30 January 2026.

This short closure will allow us to install new infrastructure under the railway line so we can connect into the existing wastewater network.

To keep everyone moving safely, a clearly signed detour will be in place.

What You Need to Know

  • When: 5 January – 30 January 2026
  • Where: Rail crossing between Kirtlington Ct/Wycombe Dve and Kennebec Ct

Why Are We Doing This?

Mount Barker is growing fast, and we’re working hard to make sure our wastewater network can keep up. The Central Sewer Trunk Main project will:

  • Install 2.4 km of new sewer pipe along the rail corridor between Hampden Road and Heysen Boulevard
  • Add maintenance and flushing points for future connections
  • Replace ageing pipes to protect the environment and meet future demand

This project is expected to wrap up in February 2026.

Part of a Bigger Plan

This work is one piece of a larger program to build four new or upgraded wastewater trunk sewers for Mount Barker. These upgrades:

  • Ensure we can provide essential public health services
  • Meet commitments to developers in the growth area
  • Support sustainable development for our community
