GMB Water has commenced an important upgrade to the local recycled water network, engaging civil contractors SADB to install a new recycled water connection between Petwood Road and Cattle Route Road. The project involves drilling beneath the South Eastern Freeway to complete the connection, as shown in the attached location plan.

The works will be carried out using directional drilling, a method chosen specifically to minimise impacts on the community. This approach significantly reduces disruption to existing road surfaces and limits inconvenience for motorists travelling through the area.

Works are scheduled to begin on Friday, 23 January, with completion expected by the end of February 2026, subject to weather and ground conditions.

During this period, several temporary traffic measures will be in place to ensure the safety of both workers and road users:

  • Speed restrictions will apply along the South Eastern Freeway, Petwood Road and Cattle Route Road whilst works are undertaken.
  • A temporary road closure and detour will be in place at the Petwood exit on 9 and 10 February (to be confirmed), in line with the construction program.
  • Traffic control personnel will be on site at various stages to manage vehicle movement safely around work zones.

We acknowledge that these essential works may cause some inconvenience and appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents, commuters and visitors. Traffic management measures are critical to ensuring the safety of contractors and the broader community. We kindly ask all road users to take extra care when approaching the work area, adhere to posted speed limits, and follow all traffic control directions.

This upgrade will contribute to the long‑term resilience and reliability of the recycled water network serving the Mount Barker region.
